I think that what you said was actually very reasonable. However what about this? what if you were to create a killer headline? I mean I dont want to tell you how to run your blog however suppose you added a post title to maybe get peoples attention? I mean BLOG_TITLE is kinda boring. You could look at Yahoos front page and watch how they create article titles to get people to open the links. You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people excited about what youve got to say. Just my opinion it might make your posts a little bit more interesting.
